Refugios Near Route and Ojos Negros

We are two riders – planning to visit the route area April 18 – 27th. We will start in Albarracin, and end in Valencia via the Ojos Negros.

Currently the plan is to go North East from Albarracin to visit Peracense, then return to Bronchales, and do some part of the route, returning to Teruel and heading down the Ojos Negros to Valencia.We’d like to stay some nights in Refugios, and the Montanas Vacias guide has been a great help here.

Given the April timeframe – we expect the nights to be cold. I know some shelters are in wooded areas where we might collect firewood, but some look to be pretty exposed without much firewood/trees. Are the Refugios stocked with wood? Can you gather firewood at most of them?

Also – any advice for lodging along the Ojos Negros would be great. It looks like there are villages with small inns, but no Refugios. Thanks!

Hi!! I usually say that one shouldn’t expect to find wood on refuges, so if you find it is hreat news…
Also, not all of them have a fire place, I tried to mark it on the guide.
In those sorroundings you mentioned, maybe you just find wood in La Portera, or El Collado… the rest are simple and humble.
And yep… refuges are difficult to find on the VV Ojos Negros, out of mountain areas.
Anyway, for example there is a cheap and nice cyclotouring hostel in Jérica. I never tried it, but lots of travellers told me it is so nice…
